My First Half Marathon - Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon
My first half marathon is complete, I really surprised myself with what I was able to do once I put my mind to it. The atmosphere was unbelievable. There's nothing like going to war with your brothers all supporting & uplifting each other. The Ipswich Half Marathon is definitely something I want to be part of again.
Having played a football match the day before my legs were sore, and all could i think about was how much worse the pain was going to get. I wanted to quit after being 3 miles in. The brothers weren't going to let that happen. We started off with a steady pace as the race went on we began to split up and after 6 miles my ankles were on fire. So I had another 7 miles to go with this pain. I stuck out because this race wasn't about a physical challenge. It was about a mental challenge.
Somehow I got faster toward the back end of the race, finishing with a very surprising time of 1hr 45 mins 31 secs. which is a personal record, I was worried that it could even take me more than 2 hours to complete. Mile 12 is where it nearly went all wrong. My legs were numb, slightly out of breath, and not knowing where the finish line was a horrible experience. However, it's an experience that was necessary for my personal development.
